Privacy Policy

Hi,

This is my site’s privacy policy and may seem a little dull. However, it’s necessary, important to both of us, and gives me a chance to emphasise my approach to helping you improve your career/business success via the resources on my site.

Before we get into it, if you know me you’ll know about my philosophy of helping people to make the right buying decisions (my main business site https://helppeoplebuy.com/). I want to help you get your hands on the right stuff.

My goal is to help those who want my help, with resources that are relevant, useful, and hopefully interesting or enjoyable to use. And that becomes easier, when I know a little bit about you.

So, if you’re going to sign up to anything on my site, or share any of your own data, I want you to be clear on what’s being done with your data so that I have your consent.

It makes total sense to me that your data should remain within your control, and be used in the way you intend. And with the GDPR changes to law, I feel that what was already the right, sensible, approach is simply now made legal. And from a sales and marketing perspective, it’s surely going to increase the relevance of what hits our inboxes. About time.

OK, here goes…

The info below clarifies what data of yours this site requests, why, and how it’s used. The intention is that this site provides a valuable resource to you when you want it, and only with your permission.

What this policy covers

This Privacy Policy applies only to your use of this site. It doesn’t extend to any sites that are linked to from this one. By using this site, you accept and agree to this Privacy Policy. If you don’t accept and agree, please don’t use the site. Simple.

What data is collected?

Some data will be collected automatically (see info directly below on cookies). Other data will only be collected if you voluntarily submit it and give consent to us using it for the purposes set out below. Depending on your use of the site, we (me, my team, and third parties mentioned below) may collect some or all of the following data:

  • full name
  • email
  • credit/debit card details
  • IP address
  • web browser type and version
  • operating System
  • URLs (referring site, your activity on this site, and the site you exit to)

For the online BD capability assessment, you are asked a number of questions about how you think about selling, how you tend to act in certain situations, your current challenges and ideas to tackle them, together with your first name, last name, and email.

Automatic data collection (via cookies)

A cookie is a tiny text document which often includes an anonymous unique identifier. When you visit a website, that site’s computer asks your computer for permission to store this file in a part of your hard drive specifically designated for cookies. Each website can send its own cookie to your browser if your browser’s preferences allow it, but (to protect your privacy) your browser only permits a website to access the cookies it has already sent to you, not the cookies sent to you by other sites. Some of our business partners (e.g. advertisers) use cookies that originate from their sites. We have no access or control over those cookies.

How we use cookies

As you use the site, (and as with most websites) cookies should serve to save you time and increase relevance, based on your user habits. Cookies, in conjunction with our web server’s log files, tell us which parts of the site are most popular. This helps us improve the site and better serve customers. Cookies do not allow us to gather any personal information about you.

Where is this data held?

This site is hosted on the Hostgator platform. The above data is stored on the platform itself. Your first name, surname and email is also sent to MailChimp to receive the free monthly posts by email. We also use Typeform, WebMerge, Zapier, Sumo, and Google Analytics.

How is this data used?

Your data is used to provide resources you have opted in to receive, at the times you agreed to receive them. You may unsubscribe from these using the link at the bottom of related emails. Or contact me here.

You may access certain areas of the site without providing any data at all. However, to use all features and functions available on the site you may be required to submit or allow for the collection of basic data.

Occasionally, I may also use the information to notify you about important changes to this website, new services and special offers I think you will find valuable. You may notify me of your desire not to receive these offers by clicking the unsubscribe link contained in each email.

All personal data is stored securely in accordance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2016/679) (GDPR).

What gets shared?

The information I collect is used to improve the content of this site and the quality of service, and is not shared with or sold to other organizations for commercial purposes. However, your information could be shared under the following circumstances:

  • we use third parties to facilitate our business, including, but not limited to, sending email and processing payments. In connection with these offerings and business operations, these third parties may have access to your personal information for use in connection with those business activities
  • as we develop our business, we may buy or sell assets or business offerings. Customer, email, and visitor information is generally one of the transferred business assets in these types of transactions
  • we may also transfer such information in the course of corporate divestitures, mergers, or any dissolution
  • if it becomes necessary to share information in order to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding illegal activities, suspected fraud, situations involving potential threats to the physical safety of any person, or as otherwise required by law.

Where any of your data is required for such a purpose, I will take all reasonable steps to ensure that your data will be handled safely, securely, and in accordance with your rights, our obligations, and the obligations of the third party under the law.

How do we secure information transmissions?

Email is not recognized as a secure medium of communication, so please don’t send private information to me by email.

Some of the information you may enter on this site may be transmitted securely via Secure Sockets Layer SSL, 128 bit encryption services. Pages utilizing this technology will have URLs that start with HTTPS instead of HTTP. You should develop the habit of checking for the ‘https’ in sites where you are sharing private information.

Processing your data

Under GDPR we will ensure that your personal data is processed lawfully, fairly, and transparently, without adversely affecting your rights. We will only process your personal data if at least one of the following applies:

a) you have given consent to the processing of your personal data for one or more specific purposes;
b) processing is necessary for the performance of a contract to which you are a party or in order to take steps at the request of you prior to entering into a contract;
c) processing is necessary for compliance with a legal obligation to which we are subject;
d) processing is necessary to protect the vital interests of you or of another person;
e) processing is necessary for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority vested in the controller; and/or
f) processing is necessary for the purposes of the legitimate interests pursued by us or by a third party, except where such interests are overridden by the fundamental rights and freedoms of the data subject which require protection of personal data, in particular where the data subject is a child.

Storing your data

I only keep your data for as long as we need in order to use it as described above, and as long as I have your permission to keep it. Your data will be deleted at your request via email, telephone or post.

Some or all of your data may be stored or transferred outside of the European Economic Area (“the EEA”) (The EEA consists of all EU member states, plus Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein). You are deemed to accept and agree to this by using this site and submitting information to me. If I do store or transfer data outside the EEA, I will take all reasonable steps to ensure that your data is treated as safely and securely as it would be within the EEA and under the GDPR.

Such steps may include, but not be limited to, the use of legally binding contractual terms between myself and any third parties I engage with.

How can you control and access your data?

You can unsubscribe using the link at the bottom of emails, or contact me here.

You may also wish to sign up to one or more of the preference services operating in the UK: The Telephone Preference Service (“the TPS”), the Corporate Telephone Preference Service (“the CTPS”), and the Mailing Preference Service (“the MPS”). These may help to prevent you receiving unsolicited marketing. Please note, however, that these services will not prevent you from receiving marketing communications that you have consented to receive.

You have the legal right to ask for a copy of any of your personal data held by me (where such data is held). Contact me here.

Summary of Your Rights under GDPR

Under the GDPR, you have:

  • the right to request access to, deletion of or correction of, your personal data held by me;
  • the right to complain to a supervisory authority;
  • be informed of what data processing is taking place;
  • the right to restrict processing;
  • the right to data portability;
  • object to the processing of your personal data;
